Bible Study, Writing, Reading
Had family Bible study time and Faith copied the verse of the day on to her own handwriting paper.

Reading, Writing
Reading comprehension. Faith read a short story (3 pages) about a class trip to a windmill. She then answered approx. 10 questions about it. Multiple choice and short answer.

Math
Money. Worksheet review on pennies, dimes, nickles and quarters. Circle the coins that equal the amount shown on the price tag.

Money and subtraction. Worksheet: subtract the cents (double digits)
Worksheets: subtraction and additon (single digits)

Money Mammals : [DVD] saving money is fun

Reading, History
Finished reading Farmer Boy, by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Week of March 29-April 4

Math
Worksheet: mixed review on time and money
Worksheet: mixed review on time (hour and half hour clock reading) and money (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters)
Worksheet: Money. Draw the coins. (Draw 65 cents using 5 coins.)
Worksheet: Money. Look at the coins. Multiple choice, how much money is shown?
Worksheet: Money. Count. Write the total value of the coins.

Reading, Science, Geography
Studying the rainforest this week.

Closer Look at The Rainforest, by Wood. Learned What is a Rainforest? Where are Rainforests? Deforestation. Endangered Species/Extinction.

Science, Life Skills
Went outdoors to experience a hands-on view of deforestation and erosion. Our yard is an example. The side is sloped with little vegetation. In the last several years, the dirt has been eroding. Tree roots are now visible that were not visible before. We are filling it back in with more dirt, but the rain will wash it away if we do not plant something on it (like grass or ground cover plants). Faith got to help with this.

Bible Study
Family Bible Study. Faith copied the verse of the day on her own paper.

Reading, History, Geography
Began reading The Little House on the Prairie, by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Faith is really enjoying this series and looks forward to the new chapter every evening. We looked on the globe to map out where they lived in the Big Woods book and are following the path they are taking across the states to their new home.

Continued reading Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Learned historical methods for making cheese, maple syrup, butter, etc. Discussed clothing that is different from today.

Writing
Practiced writing the letter a (lowercase).

Studied Knights and Castles this week. Checked out several books from the library to read on the subject.

Science, Life Skills
Continued our Gardening experience. Planted tomatoes and rosemary. Went to the local nursury to browse the plants and discuss.

Bible Study, Writing, Reading
Daily family Bible study. Faith copied the verse of the day on to her own paper.

Physical Education
Played at the park with friends this week.

Week of March 8-14

Life Skills, Science, Physical Education
Had gardening day. Faith and I tended to the back yard in preparation for spring planting. She helped dig, pull up vines, and plant some new plants. Learned how gardening can be incorporated into exercise. Learned about transplanting "cast iron" plants, watering, root systems, shade versus sun loving plants, etc.

Reading
Faith began reading May Bird and the Ever After, by Anderson.

Math
Addition facts practice.

Spelling, Writing
Practiced tracing and copying 6 spelling words (blink, tray, white, hopeful, pull, raise).

Bible Study, Writing, Reading
Family Bible study, Faith wrote the verse of the day on her own paper.

Life Skills
Went with her father on his trip to the fire station and purchase fire boots for work. Learned about using money or a purchase order.

Worksheet: Adding and subtracting. Circle the problems with the answers that match the number.

Physical Education
Gymnastics for one hour on Friday.

Reading
Faith read The Mystery of the Eagle Feather, by Murphy.
Faith read Getting to Know You, by Marsoli.
Faith read A Moment to Remember, by McCafferty.
Faith Read One True Love, by Auerbach.

Reading
Learning about Verbs, Nouns, and Adjectives. Faith did several pages in her "mad libs" type book. She has to think of a list of verbs, nouns, and adjectives to fill in the blanks of a silly story. I help her by asking, "Okay, now think of a verb. Now I need an adjective." etc., and writing them down. Then we read the story together and laugh.

Math
More addition and subtraction practice.
Adding groups of tens and ones. Verbal practice and written practice.

Physical Education
Went to gymnastics class for one hour.

Life Skills
Baked cookies this week with my help.

Science
Learned about the Dodo bird, it's characteristics, where it lived, extinction. Viewed drawings online and photos of skeletal remains.

Studied Proverbs 19:21 "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." Faith copied the verse.

Writing, Life Skills, Art
Faith wrote a letter to her grandmother and drew a picture. She addressed and mailed the package along with a memento from our vacation to her.

Life Skills
We made pillows today out of Faith's old crib bumper.

Art
Free coloring time. Faith made 3-D vegetables out of paper by coloring and balling up the paper in the shape of a tomato, carrot, eggplant, corn, and chives.

Faith wrote a letter today to her penpal, Caleb, and drew a picture for him.

Draw pictures to show things you do in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, and at night.

Worksheet: Subtraction using pictures. Write the difference: write the numbers and symbols to show what is happening in the pictures.

Worksheet: Fill in the missing numbers (1-20)

Life Skills
Faith learned how to cook eggs today for herself and her sister. She cracked the eggs, dropped them in the pan, flipped them, removed them onto a plate, turned off the stove, and served them.

Physical Education
Played on the Slip N Slide today with the family.

Colored pencil drawings. Faith selected one that both of us worked on to paste on to the cover of this week's workbook that I made for her.

Spacial perception. Shapes. Worksheet: circle the shapes that are the same (cone/party hat/megaphone).

Math, Computer Skills
Played on www.pbskids.org
Used a website to click and paste the numbers on a clock in the correct places.

Reading, Art, Writing
Worksheet: Circle the words that end with the same ending sound you hear in "sock". Then color them in the picture.
Worksheet: Color the words orange that begin with the same beginning sound in "shell". Color the words yellow that end with the same ending sound in fish. Color all of the other words blue. Write what you see in the picture.

Reading
Jonathan Park and the Secret of the Hidden Cave, by Roy. Finished the book.

Life Skills, Art
Faith helped frost and decorate a birthday cake in memory of her sister, Annika.

Math
Worksheets: Counting objects and writing the number. Skip counting (counting by twos). Fill in the missing number. Counting objects and finding the total by making tally marks on a chart.

Art, History, Math
Made popsicle stick puzzles today. Lined up the sticks and taped the back with a strip of masking tape. Wrote a number on each stick in order (1-15). On the other side, Faith colored a picture of the Mayflower, then removed the strip of tape. Makes a puzzle that can be put together from the picture side or by numerical order.

Art
Then, Faith decided her puzzle needed a box to keep it in, so we made a box out of popsicle sticks, wide strips of fabric, leather, and metal buttons for decoration.

Computer Skills
Played on http://www.pbskids.org/ today.
