Week of March 1-7

History, Reading, Writing
Studied ancient Egypt this week. Checked out various books from the library on this subject.

Faith read Mummies in the Morning, Magic Tree House, by Osbourne. She answered reading comprehension questions each day covering 3 chapters at a time.

Art, History
Faith drew a picture of the Sphinx in the desert using colored pencil.

Ponder the Picture: Colored a printout of items from ancient Egypt, then answered questions about the drawing.

Art, History
Studied Cubism this week. Pablo Picasso. Explored famous artists from this movement and their artwork using the internet. Faith painted a still life of a flower pot using cubist techniques. She also drew a man's face and a wine glass using graphite.

Math
Time review worksheet.
Addition and subtraction review worksheets.
Fraction review worksheet.
Money review worksheet.

Physical Education
Played on the park with friends. Gymnastics on Friday for one hour.

Bible Study, Writing, Reading
Family Bible study daily. Faith copied her verse of the day on her own paper.

Week of March 22-28

Mixed Review worksheet. Greater than/less than. Word problems (subtraction). Fill in the missing numbers.

DVD: Spend a Day with Rescue Workers, by Kopec. Learned about various emergency jobs.
DVD: Fire Monsters, by Lolo Productions. Learned about the fire department job.

Science
DVD: All About Fish, by Schlessinger.

Reading, History, Life Skills
Continued reading Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Learned historical methods for making cheese, maple syrup, butter, etc. Discussed clothing that is different from today.

Writing
Practiced writing the letter a (lowercase).

Studied Knights and Castles this week. Checked out several books from the library to read on the subject.

Continued reading The Little House in the Big Woods, by Wilder.

Science, Life Skills
Continued our Gardening experience. Planted tomatoes and rosemary. Went to the local nursury to browse the plants and discuss.

Daily family Bible study. Faith copied the verse of the day on to her own paper.

Physical Education
Played at the park with friends this week.

Week of March 8-14

Life Skills, Science, Physical Education
Had gardening day. Faith and I tended to the back yard in preparation for spring planting. She helped dig, pull up vines, and plant some new plants. Learned how gardening can be incorporated into exercise. Learned about transplanting "cast iron" plants, watering, root systems, shade versus sun loving plants, etc.

Reading
Faith began reading May Bird and the Ever After, by Anderson.

Math
Addition facts practice.

Spelling, Writing
Practiced tracing and copying 6 spelling words (blink, tray, white, hopeful, pull, raise).

Bible Study, Writing, Reading
Family Bible study, Faith wrote the verse of the day on her own paper.

Week of February 15-26

Bible Study

Physical Education
Gymnastics for one hour on Friday.

Reading, Writing
Worked on Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives this week. Used Mad Libs type stories to reinforce.
Worksheet: Adjectives/Describing words
Worksheet: Nouns/Naming words
Worksheet: More than one. Add s to a naming word from the box to finish each sentence.

Art, Writing
Draw a picture. Write a short story about it.
Free draw time. Experimented with abstract shapes and color.

Math (Money)
Began working on counting/adding coins again this week. Practiced counting real coins each day. Took turns coming up with combinations of coins to count.
Worksheet: Pay for it with coins. Look at the price of each item. Draw the fewest coins to pay for it.
Worksheet: Shopping at the store. How much does each item cost? What is the total cost of 2 items?
Worksheet: Which amount is Less? Look at the two ways to show money. Write the amount for each way. Circle the lesser amount.

Went with her father on his trip to the fire station and purchase fire boots for work. Learned about using money or a purchase order.

Worksheet: Adding and subtracting. Circle the problems with the answers that match the number.

Gymnastics for one hour on Friday.

Week of February 1-7

Reading
Faith read The Mystery of the Eagle Feather, by Murphy.
Faith read Getting to Know You, by Marsoli.
Faith read A Moment to Remember, by McCafferty.
Faith Read One True Love, by Auerbach.

Reading
Learning about Verbs, Nouns, and Adjectives. Faith did several pages in her "mad libs" type book. She has to think of a list of verbs, nouns, and adjectives to fill in the blanks of a silly story. I help her by asking, "Okay, now think of a verb. Now I need an adjective." etc., and writing them down. Then we read the story together and laugh.

Math
More addition and subtraction practice.
Adding groups of tens and ones. Verbal practice and written practice.

Physical Education
Went to gymnastics class for one hour.

Life Skills
Baked cookies this week with my help.

Science
Learned about the Dodo bird, it's characteristics, where it lived, extinction. Viewed drawings online and photos of skeletal remains.
